Evan Bernard joined Bikini Films for UK representation in 2006. This edgy sense of humour pervades much of Evan’s work in his music videos, commercials and short films, his eclectic style coaxing performances from actors and artists that vary from the theatrical to the comedically obtuse, from the naturalistic to the slapstick. In the world of commercials, Evan’s UK work provides good example of his unique, transatlantic sense of humour with Puma/Footlocker’s ‘Red Army’, Hula Hoops ‘Snog’ and the charming ‘Woof’ for Virgin Radio. Meanwhile, his recent US work includes spots for Red Stripe and the X-Large Action Suit with actor John C. Reilly. Evan’s versatility as a director has found him using video, film and DV, incorporating stop motion, 2D graphics and challenging angles into his visuals. This has often enabled him to create visual effects that seem beyond the means of the budgets at hand, as in Money Mark’s ‘Maybe I'm Dead’ and ‘Hand In Your Head’. |
Recent work includes projects as divers as Music Videos for Moby and a TV commercial for MoveOn.org’s “Bush McCain Challenge” campaign, featuring Hollywood actor John Cusack.
The young Evan worked hard to get a gig as ‘cruise director’ for the Lollapalooza 1994 tour headlined by the Beastie Boys. Here, Bernard was also able to shoot enough super 8mm footage to convince the Grand Royal label to allow him to shoot the video for the Beastie Boys’ "Root Down." This gritty, breakdancing, funk homage to the world of "Wild Style" launched a career that has included promos for both underground and cult artists and a few country and pop stars along the way.
